Winterbreak Hightlights and Semester Ends
I had really hoped I would have been more punctual about making these blog posts over break, but it just didn’t happen. Partly because I have always been a procrastinator, and partly because I have been painfully aware that I am quickly running out of time here and writing about the things I am doing or talking about how depressed I feel at times by this fact would make it come faster. Its...

A trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima
So last weekend my study abroad group CIEE took us all on a trip over the weekend to Hiroshima and Miyajima. I have always wanted to go so I was very happy to have the opprotunity to go. Before coming to Japan I feel like I knew about Hiroshima but I really didn’t have all the information or details. I didn’t really know Hiroshima. I feel like, at least in my experience, that the...

I FAIL
At least at updating this blog, and I apologize for that. I know a lot of you sit long hours in front of your computer screens eagerly awaiting another update, and when it doesn’t come it just ruins your whole week. Haha just kidding, but I do know that those of you who do read this really look forward to hearing about what I’m up to next so I will try to make more effort from now on!...

If you don't like not having personal space, don't...
I’ve been here for a little over a month now. I’m finally feeling like the “honeymoon phase” is now over, I’m no longer just a tourist, but someone who is trying to adjusting to having an everyday life here. While I never was really dazzled or blinded by the “greatness” of Japan (probably because I really feel like I knew what to expect before coming here)...

Typhoons are a good time to make blog posts.
Well since we are experiencing a typhoon in Japan right now, and my morning class is canceled (thankfully!), so I don’t have to leave until noon now… I thought it would be a good time to make a blog post! Last night was pretty intense I woke up at like 3am to torrential rain and thunder and lighting and this morning it was still blowing crazy and raining so some of the train lines...

Elementary School Visit
So I am very behind on updates, a whole weeks worth! I guess I should start where I left off… only I don’t really remember when that way lol. But last Saturday our host sister Maki, or otherwise known as onesan, took us to Tachikawa for a little bit of shopping. Which is only 20minutes in the oppisite direction on our train line, which is closer than Shinjuku which is about...

How crowded is Tokyo?
Well here is a taste of what it is like to cross the street in a busy district…

Night lights in my town
These lights are on outside the train station every night. It’s a nice little evening greeting.

Learning to get around.
So, I’ve been here for little over a week now and I’m finally getting out and exploring that different “popular” areas of the city. Having come from a place that doesn’t have a train commuting systems has made it a little difficult to catch on to how to us the Tokyo train systems. But I do have some experience with trains from my various travels so those experiences...

Host Family Life- Hajimaru!
Note: I noticed that I haven’t been turning the comments option on! Sorry if you have been wanting to comment, I will turn on comments in the future! (it won’t let me edit the old ones) Yesterday we moved in with our host families! Everyone was super nervous, and after a short orientation about how to live with our families, we had time to prepare our introductions. Mine ended up...

Feeling restless
So, I am doing much better today. I think I’ve pretty much recovered but I am still taking it easy and taking the medicine that the Doctor gave me. I have been so bored today! Rie-san came to see me this morning and told me it would be better for me to stay here for the day since tomorrow we move, and we have to make sure I’m healthy before I meet my host family. Speaking of host...

Japan Yokoso
I will have to make a proper entry tomorrow, but I wanted to let everyone know that I arrived safely last night and I didn’t get lost at either airports (which is an acheivement for me because I have a bad sense of direction). However, unfortunately I am fighting a stomach virus. Last night I got sick after eating dinner and today I threw up four times before going to the doctor. Despite...

日本に行ます。
I spent my last day in Michigan today with family and getting some last minute things together. Packing has proven to be more of a challenge than I thought it would be. It’s hard to chose what to take and what not to take when I know I will be gone for so long. I also have to think about the different types of weather and how to prepare myself for that. Tokyo is generally warmer in winter...
